BREAKING NEWS: TOP ROCK STARS CONFIDENT THEY CAN GET LAID WHENEVER THEY WANT

In a little tidbit from the alternately named, "Well Isn't That Surprising" or "And Who The Hell Asked What They Think" Files, we learned yesterday that "America's chief executives feel pretty good about the business climate and are bullish about their sales prospects."

Well isn't that nice. I guess we're gonna be ok.

Yes, indeed, members of the Business Roundtable, "an association of chief executive officers of major corporations," have come to the conclusion that "the U.S. economy has the strength and stamina to withstand the challenges of high oil prices and rising interest rates."

Well isn't that nice. I guess we've got nothing to fret.

According to a study of 367 of America's top CEO's earnings in 2004, average compensation was $11.8 M, or 431 times the salaries of the schnooks that work for them. Now, I'm not looking to go off on whether anyone does or doesn't "deserve" this. That's not my business; I don't really care.

Instead, more to the point, I want to know how can anyone so far removed from the reality of life in America can actually offer a useful opinion on the general state of the economy? Why on earth does any media outlet consider this a factoid worth thinking about? Would anyone expect the grossly wealthy to be anything other than "extremely confident" as regards money, business, finance?

What's next? Drug dealers are bullish on the needs of addicts? Letterman & Leno feel pretty strongly that politicians will supply them with punchlines through November? America's top fashion models are confident they can get dates?

Wouldn't that be nice. As long as they're all feeling good, then we'd know all is well.

Uh huh . . . life at the 'top' is certainly different than that existence which we experience. But, like you, I'm buoyed with confidence that these folk think everything is gonna' be 'AOK.' Holy shit! Is that what Marie Antoinette was thinking when she said, "Let them eat cake?"
